Build your own Data Cloud Billing Reports

In the last blog Understanding Data Cloud Usage in Digital Wallet, we focused on how admins can configure and optimize Data Cloud through Digital Wallet. This blog focuses on how admins and other stakeholders can create their own Usage Credit reports so that relevant folks can track Data Cloud Usage and adjust the available Data Cloud Billing levers for their organization.

I also mentioned that we were working on Data Cloud Resource API names and Resource Type being available in all usage events. This will help you identify how many credits are being used when billing events are generated. That feature is generally available (GA) now along with some out of box dashboards and reports. Details about these reports are available here.

One important thing to note is that, as reports are tied to a Data Space, please make sure that before you access existing reports or build new custom reports, you add the TenantEnrichedUsageEvent DLO to a data space (existing or new).

Within a Data Cloud Org, under Dashboards, admins will be able to see a Dashboard called Digital Wallet Consumption Insights by Tags. This Dashboard has a rich amount of reports. Two reports that are going to be especially useful for Data Cloud billing purposes are Consumption by Sources and Consumption by Usage Type

Consumption by Usage Type: These are defined usage types across your consumption reports.

Consumption by Sources: Usages coming from all possible sources within Data Cloud like Segments, CI, Profiles etc.

These reports are primarily built around a DLO called TenantEnrichedUsageEvent. This DLO has a lot of information like Units Consumed, the resource API name, type, Card Name etc. Details about TenantEnrichedUsageEvent DLO can be found here.

When you click on Consumption by Usage Type, you will be able to see all the different consumption usage types in your org which will include Data Cloud usage and all other usage types example, usage from Agentforce etc.

Now, if you want to create a Segmentation Billing report for example, you can copy this report and filter it for segmentation. These are the steps to follow.

  1. Save as New Segment report
  1. Give the name of your report, your folder location and Save
  1. Click Edit Report
  1. Tie it to a dataspace
  1. Create a filter with Usage Type developer name containing Segments
  1. Adjust the Rows and Columns based on how you want your report to look. Click Save

In this report, you can see the fields Resource ID or API Name and Resource Type. With these fields you can determine the different segments and the units consumed.

When reports are installed, all Admin users will have access to dashboards and report filters. They can then share it with other users. If you don’t want to use existing reports, you can build direct reports from scratch using TenantEnrichedUsageEvent DLOs.

Note: Other DLOs than TenantEnrichedUsageEvent are not supported to build reports for now.

In summary, Salesforce Data Cloud and Digital Wallet are working hard to provide more Billing transparency across all our Data Cloud Billing. The out of box reports and custom reports will help you slice and dice your billing credits and help you optimize your DC spend.
